Galvannealed Steel
Galvannealed steel is a specialized type of steel that combines galvanization with annealing, resulting in a product that offers both corrosion resistance and excellent paint ability. This process involves the hot-dip galvanization of steel, followed by an immediate annealing process. This annealing heats the steel and the zinc coating to a point where they fuse into a zinc-iron alloy. The result is a matte surface finish that provides better paint adhesion than standard galvanized steel. The coating of 90% zinc & 10% iron. The iron content in the coating improves weldability. The matt micro-structure of the surface provides excellent adhesion for painting.
Quality Guide:
- Coating mass (grams per square metre) – Z100 (100g/m2) & Z140 (140g/m2)
- Protective coating – Chromate protected, chromium free and oiled, or untreated
Surface finish – Regular finish (RA); Improved finish (RB) - EN 10346: 2006 – Forming/Drawing quality in DX51D+ZF up to DX56D+ZF
- EN 10346: 2009 – Micro-alloyed steel in grades HX260D+ZF, HX300LAD+ZF, HX340LAD+ZF, HX380LAD+ZF, HX420LAD+ZF
Where this material is used
Automotive Industry
Used extensively in the production of car bodies and parts that require painting, as the steel’s surface ensures strong paint adhesion and rust protection.
Construction
Ideal for use in manufacturing architectural elements like panels, roofing, doors, frames, and other components where aesthetics are important and paint is typically applied.
Electrical Cabinets
The material is commonly used in the fabrication of electrical cabinets and enclosures, where durability, paint adherence, and a certain level of corrosion resistance are necessary.
HVAC Industry
Used in the construction of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, where components often require good paint finishes for both protection and aesthetic reasons.
Appliances
Employed in the manufacture of household appliances that are painted, such as ranges, refrigerators, and washers, providing a good substrate for paint along with corrosion resistance.
Office Furniture
Utilized in office furniture, including filing cabinets and desks, which benefit from the material's ability to be painted and offer a durable, corrosion-resistant finish.
