Cold Reduced Steel
Cold Reduced Steel, also known as cold rolled steel, is a superior quality steel product renowned for its fine surface finish and impressive dimensional accuracy. Made by processing hot rolled steel sheets at room temperature, this steel is rolled at a lower temperature to harden and strengthen the material, ensuring enhanced durability.
Its smooth surface makes it ideal for painting or coating applications, offering excellent adherence. Cold Reduced Steel is available in various thicknesses and sizes, tailored to meet the precise demands of industries such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing.
Its mechanical properties make it a preferred choice for components requiring high tolerance and consistency.
Quality Guide:
- Lightly oiled protective coating
- Can be specified dry for applications such as tanks, drums or partitions
- Surface finishes – General Purpose (A); or, Full Finish (B); and/or, in differing surface textures
- EN 10130: 2006 – Forming/Drawing quality in DC01 up to DC06 IF (Interstitial Free)
- EN 10268: 2006 – Micro-alloyed steel in grades HC260LA, HC300LA, HC340LA, HC380LA, HC420LA
Where this material is used
Automotive Industry
Cold reduced steel is widely used in the automotive sector for manufacturing car parts that require high strength and good surface quality, such as body panels, frames, and structural components.
Construction
In construction, cold reduced steel is utilized for elements where precision and aesthetics are important, such as roofing, cladding, and internal fixtures. It is also used in the fabrication of steel frames for buildings that require exact tolerances.
Appliance Manufacturing
Many household appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and dryers are made with cold rolled steel due to its excellent surface finish and formability, which are essential for both aesthetic and functional parts.
Furniture
Cold reduced steel is used in the production of office furniture, including filing cabinets, desks, and chairs, where strength and a fine finish are required.
Electronics
This steel is employed in the electronics industry for making cabinets, enclosures, and chassis for electronic devices. The smooth surface is ideal for the final painted finish that many of these products require.
Metal Containers
Cold reduced steel is often used to make metal containers, including drums, food cans, and beverage containers, because of its ability to be formed into precise shapes and maintain a high-quality finish.
