Aluzinc Steel
Aluzinc steel, also known as Galvalume, is a type of steel coated with an alloy consisting mainly of aluminium (about 55%), zinc (around 43.5%), and a small amount of silicon (around 1.5%). This coating combines the corrosion resistance of aluminium with the sacrificial protection of zinc, offering a durable and effective barrier against environmental elements.
Aluzinc is between 6 and 20 times more corrosion resistant than normal galvanised and is particularly good in salt laden, acidic and polluted atmospheres. It has excellent heat resistance and will not change appearance until beyond 315 degrees centigrade.
Quality Guide:
- Coating mass (grams per square metre) – from AZ100 (100g/m2) up to AZ200 (200g/m2)
- Protective coating – Chromate protected, chromium free and oiled, or untreated
- Surface finish – Normal surface (A) or, Improved surface (B)
- EN 10327: 2004 – Forming/Drawing quality in DX51D+AZ up to DX54D+AZ
- EN 10326: 2004 – Structural steel in grades S220GD+AZ, S280GD+AZ, S320GD+AZ, S350GD+AZ, S390GD+AZ, S450GD+AZ
Where this material is used
Building and Construction
Aluzinc steel is widely used in exterior building applications, such as roofing, siding, and wall panels, due to its durability and resistance to corrosion.
Automotive Industry
It is used in the automotive sector for parts that require good corrosion resistance and durability, such as exhaust systems, body panels, and structural components.
Appliance Manufacturing
Many manufacturers use Aluzinc for the outer panels of appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and dryers, where long-lasting protection against corrosion is necessary.
Agricultural Equipment:
The material is suitable for agricultural buildings, silos, and greenhouses, providing protection against weathering and corrosion.
Solar Panels
Aluzinc steel is used in frames and support structures for solar panels, benefiting from its corrosion resistance and thermal reflectivity.
HVAC Systems
Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and thermal properties, Aluzinc steel is used in the manufacture of ductwork and other components in HVAC systems.
